Tasting Note: La Flor Dominicana 1994 Conga

The cigar feels good in the hand, and there's an exquisite ring of ligero tobacco around the middle of the foot. The band is carved with the flowers on top of the tobacco, and the wrapper has a gorgeous glossy sheen.

The Note

Tastes of smooth cedar and leather - incredibly flavorful. Notes of spicy pepper and sweet brown sugar compliment each other creating the perfect smoke. The cigar tastes bready and sweet on its first draw due to slight sweetness and a hint of spice. A small bit of spice is present, although it doesn't really stand out at first.

When we smoke the first third the cigar there are some delicious notes of molasses and chocolate. After retrohale, the cigar has some woodsy and peppery tones that give it a more recognizable flavor. As the firm ash travels into the second third of the cigar, the 1994 has an excellent, incredibly sharp burn.
A hint of orange citrus emerges as we enter the second third of the cigar, but the stick stays very sweet with a persistent molasses aroma. The molasses fades into the background around halfway through the smoke, giving place to a prominent profile of dark chocolate. As we get closer to the midway mark, the strength rises to medium/full.
There is some emerging spice in the last third of the cigar, and as it nears its end, the dark chocolate flavor is still the major attraction and lasts all the way through to the finish. 1994 reaches a powerful peak with earthy and black pepper notes and a bittersweet aftertaste.
